Ampati, Aug 18: A health centre, aimed at serving approximately 5,000 residents across 17 villages, and staffed with a dedicated medical officer, Urban Health & Wellness Centre in Kalaipara located within the Zikzak Community & Rural Development (C&RD) Block was inaugurated by Nogorpara MDC Linekar K Sangma on Friday.
The newly established health centre is poised to become a vital pillar of the community’s healthcare infrastructure.
Initial services will focus on maternal care, antenatal services, and vaccinations. As time progresses, the center’s offerings will expand to address the evolving health needs of the local population.
Linekar K Sangma expressed gratitude to the state government, the district administration, and the medical community for their efforts in launching this commendable initiative.
Attributing the success of such endeavors to the state government, Sangma called for close cooperation between the community, healthcare professionals, and stakeholders, underscoring the collective responsibility to ensure the centre’s upkeep. He also encouraged health workers to provide compassionate care to patients and urged men to equally contribute to their family’s health.
Further, he urged the BDO of Zikzak C&RD Block to ensure the construction of toilets in every household to promote sanitation and hygiene.
Digonto Hajong, BDO of Zikzak C&RD Block called for public cooperation to improve health, sanitation, and immunization rates. He advocated for the utilization of government programmes such as Swachh Bharat Mission and MGNREGS to construct toilets and underscored the importance of AADHAR seeding for accessing government schemes.
H Barman, DM&HO, underscored that the establishment of the Urban Health & Wellness Centre was made possible through the 15th Finance Commission. He noted that all five wellness centers proposed for South West Garo Hills received approval from the Government of Meghalaya, showcasing the region’s commitment to enhancing healthcare facilities. Nokma of Kalaipara expressed gratitude to the state government and DM&HO for the initiative, stressing its positive impact on current and future generations.
