Shillong, August 20: A husband and wife were fatally attacked with iron rods and sticks by their neighbors in Sitapur district.
The incident occurred in Rajeypur village within the Hargaon Police Station jurisdiction on Friday evening, as per Sitapur Superintendent of Police Chakresh Mishra.
Abbas and Kamrul Nisha fell victim to the assault carried out by individuals from a neighboring household. The couple lost their lives on the scene, and all the perpetrators fled immediately.
Mishra revealed that some years ago, Abbas’s son had eloped with a girl from the neighboring family. Legal action was taken, leading to the son’s imprisonment. Upon his recent release from jail, the family members of the girl reportedly orchestrated the attack on the couple.
Following the incident, the SP visited the location, and law enforcement personnel have been stationed in the village. The police have launched an investigation by filing a case under appropriate sections and are actively searching for the suspects who remain at large.
