Shillong, August 21: Former MP Rajen Gohain, a seasoned BJP leader, will hold discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in response to his resignation from a cabinet rank post due to his protest against the Assam delimitation process.

As per IANS, contrary to claims, Gohain clarified that he was contacted by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who urged him to reach out to Amit Shah. Following this, Gohain conversed with the Union Home Minister regarding his concerns.

Expressing the Union Home Minister’s interest in discussing matters with him, Gohain stated, “The Union Home Minister was keen to have a conversation with me. As per his wish, I have come here.”

On August 18, Gohain stepped down from his role as chairperson of the Assam Food and Civil Supplies Corporation Limited, a cabinet-level position. His resignation was prompted by his dissatisfaction with the recent delimitation process, which resulted in parts of the Nagaon parliamentary constituency being incorporated into the newly established Kaziranga Lok Sabha seat.

Gohain, who had previously represented the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency for four consecutive terms until 2014, expressed his concerns over the delimitation being overseen by Chief Minister Sarma. He highlighted that the way it was executed could potentially benefit Badruddin Ajmal’s AIUDF party, a sentiment that wasn’t heeded by the Chief Minister. This reallocation ultimately led to Nagaon being allocated to Ajmal’s party.
