Assembly panel on women takes stock in WJH

JOWAI, Aug 22: The Meghalaya Assembly Committee on Women Empowerment visited West Jaintia Hills district on Tuesday to convene a meeting with the line departments to discuss various issues related to women of the district.
The meeting was headed by Sutnga Saipung MLA Santa Mary Shylla, who was accompanied by other committee members including MLAs Miani D Shira, Adelbert Nongrum and Mathew Beyondstar Kurbah and held at the conference hall of Soil and Water Conservation office, Mihmyntdu, Jowai.
The discussion focused primarily on the initiatives, schemes, assistance and services undertaken by different departments in regard with the welfare of women and children of the district. The various programmes conducted by the concerned line departments were examined so as to ascertain their effectiveness in promoting women empowerment and welfare.
Others present in the meeting were West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner BS Sohliya, district police chief C Syrti, among others.
