FKJGP wants jobs at Rambrai base post office for locals only
NONGSTOIN, Aug 23: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia & Garo People (FKJGP) Rambrai Circle on Wednesday sought the intervention of the postmaster of Nongstoin Post Office to not entertain the candidature or recommendation of any non-tribal for the vacant posts at Rambrai Base Post Office (BPO). The FKJGP led by its president Jistarlan Lyngkhoi along with other members met the Postmaster, B Dkhar, and apprised her about the many eligible locals for the post. The delegation also pointed out that non-tribals have a problem in communicating as they cannot speak the local language. The FKJGP also advised the office to depute local persons for the post to ease the process of working and smooth functioning of the office. The Postmaster of Nongstoin Post Office has assured to find an amicable solution.

 

Assembly panel takes stock of crimes against women in JH
Shillong, Aug 23: The Meghalaya Assembly Committee on Women Empowerment reviewed the status of crimes against women and children in East Jaintia Hills and West Jaintia Hills on August 21 and 22 respectively. Chairperson of the Committee, Santa Mary Shylla, chaired the meetings along with members of the committee. In a briefing with the press following the two-day review of crimes against women and children in Jaintia Hills, Shylla emphasised the significance of speedy justice delivery, particularly in POCSO cases.

 

Students get m-tabs in WKH
NONGSTOIN, Aug 23: The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills, District, Government of Meghalaya, under the Chief Minister’s Digital Learning Aid (M- TAB) Scheme, today, successfully held a programme at Trysem Hall, Deputy Commissioner Office, and distributed mobile tablets to all registered Class XI students. All together 1467 students registered themselves to avail mobile tablet in the District. By equipping Class XI students with mobile tablets, the Government aims to foster a conducive learning environment that embraces digital technology and prepares the youths for a competitive future. Gabriel Wahlang, MLA of Nongstoin, grace the occasion as the Chief Guest, in the presence of H K Thabah, Addl. Deputy Commissioner, Bikram D Marak, Superintendent of Police, L Syiemlieh, DSEO, other government officials, teachers and students from various schools of the district attended the programme. The Chief Guest,Gabriel Wahlang, on his speech thanked the Meghalaya government for this initiative.

 

Free medical camp in EKH
SHILLONG, Aug 23: The 110th Battalion of BSF Meghalaya, as part of its efforts to ensure the well-being of the bordering population, organised a free medical camp at Border Outpost Ryngku in East Khasi Hills on Wednesday. The medical camp was organised under the aegis of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. During the camp, doctors from the BSF conducted free health checkups and also distributed free medicines among the needy people of the bordering villages including Ryngku, Patta Ghat, Kyrdoh, and Hat Mawdon. The local villagers and headmen expressed their sincere gratitude towards the BSF.
