Liverpool’s Mac Allister wins appeal against red card
LONDON, Aug 23: Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister won his appeal against the red card he received in the win over Bournemouth in the Premier League.The Argentina international was sent off for serious foul play following a challenge on Ryan Christie in the 58th minute of Liverpool’s 3-1 victory at Anfield on Saturday.Mac Allister was facing a three-match ban but an independent regulatory commission removed the suspension. Mount out ‘until international break’ with injury
MANCHESTER, Aug 23: Manchester United’s England midfielder Mason Mount will miss Saturday’s Premier League game against Nottingham Forest due to injury and is expected to be out until next month’s international break, United said on Tuesday.The 24-year-old, who started both of United’s league games so far this season, picked up an injury in last weekend’s 2-0 loss at Tottenham Hotspur.“The small complaint is expected to keep Mount out until the international break next month,” United said in a statement. The next international break takes place from Sept. 4-12. (Agencies)

Serena Williams gives birth to second child, a daughter
NEW YORK, Aug 23: Serena Williams has given birth to a baby girl, she posted Tuesday on Instagram, almost exactly a year after her last match as a tennis star.Adira River Ohanian is the second child and second daughter for the 41-year-old Williams and her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. Their first, Olympia, was born in 2017.Williams, who won 23 Grand Slam singles titles during a career that transcended her sport, revealed at the Met Gala in May that she was pregnant. When she told the world in August 2022 she was preparing to close her playing career, Williams cited a desire to grow her family as one of the main reasons for walking away from tennis. (AP)

World Para Powerlifting: Parmjeet wins historic gold
DUBAI, Aug 23: Two years after winning a historic bronze medal Parmjeet Kumar made more history on Wednesday, becoming the first Indian to win a gold at the Senior level in the World Para Powerlifting Championships, emerging victorious in the men’s 49kg Total event in the 2023 event in Dubai.Parmjeet’s historic milestone, which also meant his elevation from bronze to gold at the World Championships, came a day after Honey Dabas clinched the first-ever gold at the Junior level for India at the Hilton Dubai, Al Habtoor City.Demonstrating strength and determination, the 31-year-old Parmjeet Singh from Punjab successfully lifted weights of 150 kg, 155 kg, and 157 kg, achieving a total of 462 kg, which was enough to outshine his Colombian competitor, Morales Gonzalez, who secured the silver medal with a total lift of 444 kg. Expressing his happiness on achieving this historic feat, Paramjeet said the medal was the result of several years of hard work. After Wednesday’s performance, Parmjeet is in sixth place in the Paris 2024 Qualification rankings.(IANS)
