Shillong, August 24: Reports have emerged suggesting that Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner mercenary group and the mastermind behind a failed coup attempt against Russian President Vladimir Putin, may have lost his life in a plane crash within Russia’s Tver region.

Tragically, the crash claimed the lives of nine other individuals who were also aboard the aircraft. Although Prigozhin’s name appeared on the passenger manifest, it remains uncertain if he was among those onboard.

Russia’s Emergencies Ministry confirmed the fatal crash, revealing that all ten occupants, comprising three crew members and seven passengers, perished aboard the private Embraer Legacy jet.

Russia’s state aviation agency, Rosaviatsia, indicated that an individual matching Prigozhin’s identity was among the victims.

Igor Rudenya, the Governor of the Tver region, has taken personal oversight of the response to the aviation tragedy. According to his press office, the aircraft was a civilian craft, according to a report by The Moscow Times.
