SHILLONG, Aug 24: The MeECL has asked the corporation’s Chief Engineer to probe whether the collapse of an electric pole at Lad Demthring on Thursday morning was due to use of substandard construction materials.
“We will initiate action against the concerned suppliers if it is established that the pole collapsed due to poor quality of materials,” MeECL CMD, Sanjay Goyal told The Shillong Times.
An SUV rammed against the electric pole at Demthring near EFCI at around 7:20 am on Thursday and the pole collapsed and fell on another car. Both vehicles were damaged but no casualty was reported.
Residents have alleged that the concrete electric pole was of poor quality.
Goyal said the collapse could have been due to the massive impact as the vehicle sustained severe damage.
A new electric pole was erected and power supply was restored.
