MLCU ranks among top 50 pvt varsities in India, as per survey
SHILLONG, Aug 24: Martin Luther Christian Academy (MLCU) was ranked in the top 50 private universities in the country by Outlook magazine in its annual rankings survey published on Thursday. MLCU made its debut in the list with 48th place among the 526 private universities in the country. The survey was conducted by ICARE, a consulting and research group in New Delhi. MLCU was the only private university from the Northeast to receive a top 50 ranking. The university scored high marks in academic excellence (360/400 marks) and placement (173/200 marks). In this year’s combined list of private and deemed universities, MLCU was ranked 67 in the top bracket by India Today in its August 14 issue. Recently, MLCU was ranked 7th in “Promising Future-Ready Universities” by Education World.

Scan and share facility comes up at Ganesh Das hospital
SHILLONG, Aug 24: The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) Scan and Share service, a QR-Code based solution, was launched by the Principal Secretary Health, Sampath Kumar at the OPD registration block of Ganesh Das MCH Hospital, Shillong, on Thursday. The programme was followed by a live demonstration on the ABDM Scan and Share by the ABDM team and a short orientation programme at the training hall of the hospital. The objective of this service is to promote digital health services to meet the objective set by the World Health Organization in terms of realising the universal health coverage to each and every individual throughout the country. The National Health Authority (NHA) through the ABDM has introduced a QR-code based solution in ABDM empanelled facilities to enable patients to scan QR code and share their demographic base on their consent. This process expects to drastically eliminate the long queue during peak OPD registration times.

 

Natl Sports Day activities in Ampati
TURA, Aug 24: The Office of the District Sports Officer, South West Garo Hills Ampati organised an Inter School Tug of War competition at Students’ Field Ampati on Thursday, as part of the nationwide celebration of National Sports Day 2023. South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner RP Marak was the Chief Guest on the occasion in the presence of Assistant Deputy Commissioners, D Hajong and PLK Sangma as special guests. During the event, Springfield Secondary School emerged victorious in both the boys’ and girls’ categories of the tug of war competition. The boys’ category runners-up title was secured by Mother’s Union Secondary School, while in the girls’ category, Bandalkona Secondary School claimed the runners-up title. A Musical Chair competition was also part of the event. Bildora G Sangma from Spring Field School emerged as the victorious contestant among the boys, while Kimbera A Sangma from Mother’s Union Secondary School emerged triumphant among the girls.

 

Accusation against VEC secretary
TURA, Aug 23: The Secretary of Purakahasia Puranbazar VEC under Dalu block in West Garo Hills has been accused of withholding a day’s wage of each of the job card holders for her own pocket. According to a complaint issued here on Wednesday, the wages of six or seven days for work done in 2022-23 were yet to be received by the job card holders. The irregularity came to light after the VEC President revealed the same to the job card holders during a meeting. Meanwhile, the job card holders have demanded an inquiry into the matter as well as sought action against the VEC Secretary.
