SHILLONG, Aug 24: A reported attempt to “kidnap” a child from Laitumkhrah Presbyterian Higher Secondary School has now turned out to be a case of “misunderstanding”.
Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem on Thursday said the two individuals who were accused of attempting to “kidnap” a student, had voluntarily appeared at the Laitumkhrah police station after learning of the allegation.
Syiem said after due investigation it was determined that the two persons were relatives of a child studying in Class KG in the school and had arrived at the school to collect their nephew.
“The confusion started when the duo used the child’s pet name, which was not known to the class teacher. Incidentally, the pet name matched the name of another child studying in the same class, leading to the misunderstanding,” Syiem said.
Syiem said the concerned parents of both children, along with the Principal and class teacher of the school appeared at the police station and clarified the matter.
