SHILLONG, Aug 25: The State Cabinet on Friday approved the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme.
The scheme would enable the government to go for loss reduction through the division of the state into 10 projects. The projects have been tendered for about Rs 780 crore with many bidders quoting a higher price.
Responding to the state’s request, the Centre had advised re-tendering or negotiation. The government opted for the latter as the bids were deemed to be on the lower side.
The Cabinet also approved the appointment of a full-time secretary for the Meghalaya State Council of Technical Education, Shillong.
The need for a full-time secretary was being felt as Meghalaya a polytechnic institute each in Shillong, Tura, and Jowai, with four more in the pipeline.
Among the other Cabinet decisions was to appoint A Ali, who is retiring soon as the additional director of DHTE, as the first full-time secretary of MSCTE for 24 months. Similarly, retired Indian Forest Service officer CP Marak has been given the Cabinet nod for appointment as the executive chairman of MB0SE for 12 months. The Cabinet further approved the reemployment of IAS officer Ripnar Lyngdoh as the Information Commissioner of the Meghalaya State Information Commission.
A Cabinet memorandum in the form of a Bill to change the Captain Williamson Sangma Technical University to the Captain Williamson Sangma State University was also approved.
The Cabinet approved the amendment of the Meghalaya Judicial Service Rules, 2006, and the Meghalaya Higher Judicial Service Rules, 2015.
The Cabinet proposed to omit a provision for the recruitment of judicial officers by the commission and the recruitment by the High Court of Meghalaya after the necessary amendment.
The amendment proposed to change the nomenclatures of the designation of judicial officers according to the directions of the Supreme Court.
