SHILLONG, Aug 25: The HYC on Friday demanded an inquiry to find out how five non-tribal candidates got selected in the open category of the MBBS seats under the state quota.
“We wanted to know how the five candidates got into the open category. We have a doubt that these candidates are not permanent residents of the state,” HYC president, Robertjune Kharjahrin told reporters after meeting Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh.
He said that there are also reports that these five candidates had applied for the state quota in Manipur.
The HYC president said that one needs to have a permanent  resident certificate (PRC) to be able to apply for the seats under the government quota.
“It seems that they managed to get their PRC from Garo Hills and all of them are suspected to be from Assam,” he said.
Kharjahrin said they urged the Health Minister that the list of the selected candidates for the MBBS seats should not be approved until proper verification of the credentials of the doubtful candidates.
The minister has assured that if required, an inquiry will be conducted before the list of the selected candidates is approved, he said.
