Jowai, Aug 26: Heavy downpour has resulted in yet another mudslide that hit Sonapyrdi tunnel in East Jaintia Hills again on Saturday morning.
As a result of incessant rain, the Sonapyrdi tunnel was blocked disrupting movements of vehicles. Few cars were even washed away, others stuck in the mud halting traffic movement along the national highway.
The district administration and police are working round the clock to clear the road and restore traffic on the important NH 6 connecting to three northeastern states.
Earthmovers and personnel were put to work to clear the debris and the stuck vehicles.
It may be mentioned that in June, continuous landslides at the Sonapyrdi tunnel have caused blockage at the tunnel along NH-6 that connects Meghalaya with Silchar in eastern Assam, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura. The mudslide has left hundreds of vehicles stranded on both sides of the road.
