Shillong, August 27: A Pakistani doctor, Muhammad Masood, residing in the US on an H-1B work visa, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for attempting to provide material support to the terrorist organization Daesh.

As per IANS, Masood, formerly employed as a research coordinator in Rochester, Minnesota, was involved in activities from January to March 2020 that showed his affiliation with the militant group.

He used encrypted communication to aid his plans of joining Daesh, express allegiance, and discuss “lone wolf” attacks.

While his travel plans were disrupted due to COVID-19 restrictions, he was arrested by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force upon attempting to fly to Los Angeles. Masood had pleaded guilty to the charges in August 2022.
