Guwahati, August 29: Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the ruling BJP in Assam is gearing up its organisational activities and has simultaneously launched a voter awareness campaign across the state following the revision of the voters’ list by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Meanwhile, state-level workshops are being organised at the party head office here and in each Assembly constituency for smooth conduct of matters pertaining to revised voters’ list of 126 Assembly constituencies such as inclusion of new names, removal of deceased persons’ names and transfer of names.

In a statement issued here, the party said that it was focused on winning all the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam. The party will appoint “vistaraks” – a full-time functionary who works as an extended arm of the party organisation – in the 29 Assembly constituencies falling under Koliabar (Kaziranga), Nagaon and Barpeta Lok Sabha constituencies where the party has no representatives.

In the meantime, under Lok Sabha Pravas Yojana, senior leaders of the party have already geared up organisational matters in all Lok Sabha constituencies.

In view of the upcoming Lok Sabha election, a meeting of the social media and information technology cell (shankhnad) was held at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan here on Monday wherein an 11-member social media cell of each Lok Sabha constituency, including district convenors and co-convenors of social media cell, participated.

The meeting was held in presence of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma; state BJP president Bhabesh Kalita; organisational general secretary Ravindra Raju and general secretary Pallab Lochan Das. The party leadership underscored the need to work with renewed zeal and vigour at the hustings.

A party spokesperson, while exuding confidence that the saffron party would prevail in the Lok Sabha elections, said that six MLAs from Assam have been campaigning in Madhya Pradesh, 11 MLAs in Chhattisgarh and one MLA for the Mizoram Assembly elections.
