Golden jubilee celebration of Seng Khasi College

By Our Reporter

SHILLONG, Aug 29: Cabinet Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Monday exhorted students to aim for clearing the prestigious Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examinations.
Speaking at the concluding ceremony of the golden jubilee celebration of Seng Khasi College, Lyngdoh said that it is important to have more indigenous IAS officers who know how to generate policies which will help the State.
“Let us have experts from among ourselves so that we know how to generate policies which will be designed for us and away from the mainstream practice of painting India with one brush,” Cabinet Minister said.
She maintained that the state needs academicians as well as specialists such as doctors.
On the other hand, Lyngdoh lauded Seng Khasi College for deciding to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
“I’m happy to hear that the college has gone to start implementing the NEP. We will drift further from joining mainstream education if we go on complaining. I don’t deny there are challenges to implement the new policy,” the minister said.
She also stated that if the students say not to CUET, then they are distancing themselves from joining that mainstream challenge.
The Cabinet Minister also took a swipe at the “agencies” pulling the state down.
According to her, some of the indicators of these agencies always try to demoralise the state. “I have travelled to various parts of the state and I can say we have achieved much. Yes, there are challenges and we will continue to work on it. I would request (you) don’t lose faith on the government,” she said.
She also lauded the college’s commitment to shaping young minds and contributing to the intellectual and cultural landscape of the region. She commended the institution’s efforts in upholding values of knowledge, diversity, and community service over the past fifty years.
North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum shared his reflections on the college’s journey and its role in nurturing generations of leaders and professionals.
The closing ceremony was a blend of tradition and contemporary celebrations. Cultural performances showcased the rich heritage of Meghalaya. The event also featured an award ceremony honoring outstanding students, faculty and staff members who had contributed significantly to the institution’s growth.
