Shillong, August 31: The KHADC has constituted a committee to look into the safety and security of the Iewduh market and its six adjoining localities.

The committee will also look into matters to see that proper hygiene and cleanliness are maintained in Iewduh market.

This committee will be headed by the KHADC CEM, Pyniaid Sing Syiem with Executive Member in-charge of Market, Grace Mary Kharpuri and Executive Member in-charge of Solid Waste Management, Victor Ranee as members.

Talking to reporters after meeting the local shopkeepers of Iewduh market, KHADC CEM said that the decision to form the committee was a follow up action of the recent inspection of the market.

Informing that the council has already notified the formation of this committee, Syiem said that the committee would also consist of Additional District Magistrate, Ronnie Wahlang, Sector Police Officer, Bipul Das and representative from the Urban Affairs Department.

According to him, the Rangbah Shnongs of the six localities adjoining Iewduh market including Wahingdoh, Umsohsun, Wahthapbru, Quallapaty, Mawkhar and Mission Compound will also be members of the committee.

The KHADC CEM also expressed concern over the presence of the non-tribal roadside hawkers who are operating at Iewduh Market without a trading license from the Council.

According to him, these roadside hawkers will need to apply for a trading license from the council.

KHADC CEM also informed that the council will be installing CCTV cameras and street lights at Iewduh market as part of the measure to ensure the safety and security of the people who visit the market.
