BSF foils smuggling bids in SGH & EJH

Shillong, Sep 2: In a joint operation, troops of the 181 Battalion of BSF along with Meghalaya police foiled a smuggling attempt of Phensedyl cough syrup, liquor and sugar from the bordering areas of South Garo Hills and East Jaintia Hills districts, intended for smuggling into Bangladesh.
According to a statement issued here on Saturday, 3,100 bottles of Phensedyl cough syrup were seized from the international border of West Garo Hills and were subsequently handed over to the PS- Dobasipara for further action.
In another operation, the BSF Mobile Check Post deployed at Sonapur of the 172 Battalion relying on a specific tip-off intercepted two Bolero Pickup loaded with 15 liquor cartons and 32 bags of sugar from the bordering area of East Jaintia Hills.
On being questioned both the drivers and his accomplices failed to provide valid documents for the consignments and behaved suspiciously which prompted the BSF to apprehend them and seized the consignments.
Further, the apprehended persons along with seized items were handed over to the PS- Umkiang for further action.
