Meghalaya’s weaving heritage to entice audience in Milan

New Delhi, Sep 4: For the first times, international audience at Milan, the global capital of fashion and design is set to witness the unique weaving heritage of Meghalaya and its rich tourist potential.
The North East Institute of Fashion Technology (NEIFT) is organising the 17th edition of mega event — Celebrating Northeast India Festival in association with Consulate General of India, Milan at the historic Museum – Villa Necchi Campiglio, Milan in Italy on September 9.
The Meghalaya and Nagaland tourism will showcase the tourism potentials of the two states at the festival besides their unique natural textile heritage.
Eight fashion designers from the northeast will display their exotic collection in sustainable textiles and weaves of the region shall be showcased by top models of Milan fashion industry. The folk dancers of the region are set to create a magical evening at the beautiful venue that day.
A strong contingent of delegates from northeast comprising of performers, designers, models, artistes, officials, etc are travelling to participate and attend the programme.
This show follows the stunning success of last year’s international edition at Washington DC.
The show is a challenge for NEIFT, led by its CEO and the festival director Vikram Rai Medhi. He will showcase the rich heritage of sustainable textiles of the northeast region in the Mecca of fashion – Milan.
The Ministry of DONER, Ministry of Textiles, KVIC, Ministry of MSME, have come forward to support and be associated with the festival.
The festival will give an opportunity to Meghalaya to showcase its natural tourism potentials to a niche European audience which will definitely bring international tourists to Meghalaya, one official said.
For Nagaland the festival at Milan will be a curtain raiser for the famous Hornbill Festival.
The colourful festival is celebrating its silver jubilee in its next year’s edition.
