Woman paraded naked: NCW team to probe

Jaipur, Sep 4: A team of the National Commission for Women on Monday reached Rajasthan’s Pratapgarh district to investigate the case of a tribal woman being paraded naked by her husband and others. The team praised the prompt action taken by the police in the case in which 11 people, including the husband of the woman, have been arrested. The team comprising NCW member Delina Khongdup and counsellor Shalini Singh met the administrative and police officers and took updates about the case. “Because of the police, the victim is now fearless and wants to live with her parents. We are investigating… whatever are the facts, we will also send them to the Ministry of Women and Child Development,” Khongdup told reporters. A video of the woman being paraded naked by her husband and in-laws in a village under Dhariyawad police station area of Pratapgarh had gone viral following which the NCW took suo moto cognisance of the matter. Building caves in: 3 killed

Barabanki, Sep 4: Three persons were killed and 10 others injured after a three-storey building in the Fatehpur area here in Uttar Pradesh collapsed early Monday, police said. Two persons are still feared trapped under the rubble, police said, adding that a joint team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) is trying to rescue them. While two persons – Roshni (22) and Hakimmudin (28) – died during treatment, the third death in the incident was recorded when the rescue team recovered the body of a man, possibly in his late twenties, from under the rubble, the police said. The incident occurred around 3.15 am and it was reported that 15 people were trapped under the building’s debris, they said. In initial operations, 12 people were rescued and admitted to the Barabanki district hospital. Two of them died during treatment while eight others were referred to the King George Medical University in Lucknow for better treatment, according to police. The owner of the building has been identified as Hashim, Barabanki Superintendent of Police (SP) Dinesh Kumar Singh said. Meerut (UP), Aug 26: Danish Akhlaq, son of a former BSP Lok Sabha MP, has been arrested on charge of rape, police here said on Saturday. Danish, son of former MP Shahid Akhlaq, was booked under Section 376 at Partapur Police Station late Friday night and arrested from his house, Brahmpuri’s Circle Officer (CO) Shuchita Singh told PTI. Danish’s mobile has also been taken into custody by the police for investigation. The CCTV cameras in the hotel where the incident took place are being checked and the police have seized the DVR, the CO said. According to police, a 24-year-old woman in her complaint alleged that Danish on Tuesday called her to a hotel room and had sex with her saying he will marry her. Shahid Akhlaq, Meerut MP from 2004 to 2009, told PTI his son was a victim of a honey trap. “My son has been trapped.” Senior Superintendent of Police Rohit Singh Sajwan had on Friday said the victim had filed her complaint with him Thursday at his office. She also showed her chats with Danish on Facebook and Instagram, he said. The woman in her complaint also said Danish told her he was a bachelor and promised to marry her. The woman has also alleged that Akhlaq made a video of the act. The SSP said the matter has been handed over to the cyber cell. (PTI)
