SHILLONG, Sep 4: Making an amicable and constructive gesture, the VPP on Monday congratulated the NPP-led MDA Government for honouring the promise of constituting the expert committee to review the Meghalaya State Job Reservation Policy of 1972.
In a letter to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, VPP general secretary, Ricky AJ Syngkon said that the party has come up with appropriate and acceptable recommendations that fulfill the principle of fairness and equity as far as the reservation between the Khasis and Garos is concerned.
However, the VPP emphasised that the time frame of a year given to the expert committee is unexpected and requires a serious rethinking on the part of the state government.
“It is a considered opinion of the party that it is reasonable that the committee should be given six months only to complete their assigned task,” the VPP general secretary said in the letter to the chief minister.
