SHILLONG, Sep 5: Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Tuesday said the post of mid-level health provider (MLHP) has been re-advertised as the department is going for fresh recruitment.
She said the interview would be held in Tura on September 12 and adequate opportunity would be provided to all, although she highlighted that only two recognised institutions — NEIGRIHMS and Woodland Hospital — run this programme in the state.
“We kind of regret that we may have overlooked other people from other institutions with similar qualifications. Hence, the department has brought out a new advertisement to give an opportunity to all those who apply for the MLHP job,” Lyngdoh said.
She said the Health department underwent a course correction after going for campus recruitment.
She also said her discussion with the leaders of a conglomeration of joint NGOs from the Garo Hills revolved around the advertisement for the post of the MLHP, an important functionary in the health system supported by the National Health Mission and other integrated central resources.
Pointing out that the MLHP is a health provider with a very specific qualification, Lyngdoh said three categories of qualified individuals are permitted to apply for such a post – a BSc nursing degree holder with a bridge course of six months in community medicine or community works under the Health Department, a CHO who has undergone a community health course, and Ayush doctors armed with the certificate bridge course.
“This certificate bridge course is run specifically at NEIGRIHMS and Woodland Hospital. There could also be individuals with similar qualifications who passed from institutions recognised by the Nursing Organisation of India,” Lyngdoh said.
Recalling IGNOU running a six-month programme, a bridge course certified by the Centre and the nursing fraternity of India, she said the department would write to IGNOU to start this programme and have this facility available for citizens of Meghalaya, as the state does not have the requisite number of doctors.
