Shillong, September 7: On the first anniversary of the 4,000 km-long Bharat Jodo Yatra, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed his belief that millions of steps toward unity and love have laid the groundwork for a brighter future in India. He asserted that this journey would persist until hatred dissipates, and India stands united.
As per IANS, sharing his thoughts via a post during his week-long Europe trip, Rahul Gandhi stated, “The millions of steps toward unity and love taken during the Bharat Jodo Yatra have become the cornerstone of a better tomorrow for our nation. This journey continues – until hatred disappears and India unites. This is my commitment.”
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also praised the Bharat Jodo Yatra, emphasizing that it is a historic people’s movement unparalleled in history. Spanning over 4,000 kilometers from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, the yatra conveyed a message of unity in diversity, attracting participation from diverse backgrounds.
Kharge stressed that manufacturing irrelevant headlines to divert attention from pressing issues is a systemic attack on the collective conscience of the nation. The yatra aimed to bring critical issues such as economic inequalities, price inflation, unemployment, and social injustices to the forefront, as well as address concerns about the subversion of the Constitution and the centralization of power.
Congress General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal described the yatra as a transformative penance spanning 4,081 kilometers that reshaped Indian politics. He noted that wherever the Bharat Jodo Yatra went, it garnered widespread support and marked the countdown to change in the BJP-RSS-led government.
To commemorate the first anniversary of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, the party organized yatras in 722 districts, led by MPs, MLAs, ex-Ministers, and CWC members, followed by meetings. The yatra, which began in Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari on September 7, 2022, traversed 12 states, two Union Territories, 75 districts, and 76 Lok Sabha constituencies, leaving a significant mark on India’s political landscape.
