Ashok Leyland marks 75th anniversary with unveiling of electric commercial vehicles

Shillong, September 8: Ashok Leyland Ltd, a leading commercial vehicle manufacturer, celebrated its 75th year of operation by unveiling electric light commercial vehicles from its group company, SWITCH Mobility, on Thursday.

As per IANS, Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, unveiled the IeV series electric light commercial vehicles during the event.

Ashok Leyland described the IeV Series as India’s first electric commercial vehicle in its category, specifically aimed at serving MSMEs, cottage industries, and the e-commerce sector.

In addition to the electric commercial vehicles, Ashok Leyland showcased a new 9-meter Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Electric Bus developed for NTPC Ltd. This bus marks India’s first commercial use of a fuel cell bus on its roads.

The company also exhibited India’s first Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine Truck, a product developed in collaboration with Reliance Industries.

Dheeraj Hinduja, Chairman of Ashok Leyland and SWITCH Mobility, reflected on the company’s 75-year journey, calling it a story of transformation and innovation. He expressed excitement about the future and a commitment to continue shaping the commercial vehicle industry.
