Shillong, September 8: In response to directives from the Supreme Court, the Ladakh administration issued a new notification on Friday regarding the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) elections. The notification assigns the regional National Conference (NC) the symbol of the plough.

As per IANS, the notification from the Ladakh administration states, “In pursuance to the order of the Hon’ble Supreme Court dated 06/09/2023 in Civil Appeal No. 5707 of 2023 (SLP No. 18727 of 2023), the symbol ‘Plough’ is hereby reserved for the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference Party for the ensuing elections to the 5th Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil.”

The voting for the LAHDC elections, initially scheduled for September 10, has been rescheduled for October 4.

Previously, the Ladakh administration had declined to allocate the symbol to NC candidates, citing the party’s lack of recognition in Ladakh. This decision was challenged by the NC.
