SHILLONG, Sep 7: The KSU on Thursday raised its voice against a proposed move by the Centre to change the name of the country from India to Bharat.
“It is an open secret that it is a political move of the BJP looking at next year’s Lok Sabha polls,” KSU general secretary, Donald V Thabah told The Shillong Times.
According to him, the word India is not native for all and everyone know that “Bharat” is a Sanskrit word.
He questioned how a nation with such diversity can accept such a name.
“We cannot accept this move of the Centre to change the name of the nation. We have heard that they are planning to do away with the CrPC and IPC and come up with new laws,” the KSU leader said.
Thabah observed that the BJP-led NDA Government is trying to change everything that has been there since 1947.
“It is trying to change the policies of the previous governments,” he said, while making it clear that the present federal structure country should not be disturbed.
“The BJP is even trying to change the historical concept of the various indigenous communities including the Khasis and it is highly unacceptable.” he said.
