Shillong, Sep 11: The Dorbar Shnong of Thangskai village in East Jaintia Hills has finally broken its silence on the controversy surrounding a candidate selected in the open category for the MBBS state quota seats.
In a letter submitted to Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Monday, the Dorbar said Sunil Kumar, the father of Ayush Kumar (the candidate), had committed fraud by falsely claiming to be a permanent resident of the village to obtain the MBBS quota.
“We demand that his name be struck out from the list of selected candidates for MBBS state quota as he is not a permanent resident of the village. We expect the government to take immediate action against this fraudulent act,” Waheh Shnong of Thangksai village, Phai Syrti said in the letter.
Syrti said that in 2021, he was approached by Sunil Kumar seeking a temporary residential certificate for his son solely for the purpose of showing his present stay of address to the college in Odisha where his son was doing his 10+2 studies. “Since the person had been working and staying in Thangskai village for the past 12 years, the Waheh Shnong issued the certificate. The temporary residential certificate (TRC) never stated that the same would be use to apply for the permanent residential certificate (PRC) or any other document from the government or to claim any facility from the state government,” Syrti said.
“The village admits some errors have occurred in the writing of the TRC but we fail to understand as to how Lumshnong police confirmed the antecedents and address of Ayush Kumar without proper verification,” he said.
Earlier, the Synjuk Waheh Shnong of East Jaintia Hills had asked the headman of Thangskai village and the state government to cancel the PRC issued to Ayush Kumar.
The group of headmen had also condemned the headman of Thangskai for issuing a certificate to a non-Khasi and non-resident person.
