JOWAI, Sep 12: The Jaintia Students’ Movement Eastern Region submitted a memorandum to the NHAI through the East Jaintia Hills deputy commissioner demanding immediate repair of National Highway 6, especially the stretch between Tuber Shohshrieh and Malidor.
The JSM also gave a one-month deadline to the NHAI to complete the repair work.
JSM stated that NH-6 is a backbone for residents of Jaintia Hills besides it connects various Northeastern states of India, including Assam, Mizoram and Tripura.
JSM also pointed out that two toll gates exist on a 60-km stretch of the highway and remain in operation on a 24×7 basis but the capital earned from the toll gates is not being spent on repair and maintenance.
