SHILLONG, Sep 12: UDP leader and Mayralborn Syiem on Tuesday batted for introduction of goods trains in the state to arrest the rising prices of essential commodities.
“Multiple toll gates, both legal and illegal, in and outside the state add to the cost of essential commodities coming into the state. Goods trains should be introduced in the state after introducing a mechanism like ILP to check influx,” the Nongpoh MLA said.
He said the increasing burden on citizens owing to the high rates of essential commodities is one of the biggest issues that need to be addressed by the government.
Stating that Meghalaya depends on other states for the supply of essential commodities, he said, “If goods trains reach the state it will help ease the prices of the commodities.”
He also made it clear that mechanisms like ILP and MRSSA have to be in place so that it will ensure that illegal immigrants cannot enter the state.
