Rugby India name 12-member team for Asian Games
NEW DELHI, Sep 13: Rugby India on Wednesday announced a 12-member team for the upcoming Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, with Sheetal Sharma as captain.The team for the September 23 to October 8 continental multi-sporting event was picked after a 50-day camp.Out of the 12 players announced on Wednesday, 10 featured in the list of Asian Games-bound athletes issued by the Sports Ministry last month, while other two were not there.India’s campaign starts with two matches against Hong Kong and Japan on September 24.Singapore is the fourth country in Pool F. The top two teams in each pool will qualify for the semi-finals.The team: Sheetal Sharma (captain), Sweta Shahi, Sandhya Rai (vice-captain), Mama Naik, Kalyani Patil, Vaishnavi Patil, Lachmi Oraon, Dumuni Marndi, Hupi Majhi, Shikha Yadav, Tarulata Naik and Priya Bansal.Coach: Ludwiche Van Deventer. Man Utd confirm Snapdragon as new shirt sponsor
MANCHESTER, Sep 13: Manchester United have agreed a deal with U.S. technology company Qualcomm that will see its Snapdragon brand replace the TeamViewer logo as their shirt sponsor from next season, the Premier League club said.The club did not reveal the financial details of the deal but reports suggest, Qualcomm and United had agreed on a contract for a minimum of three years, with the Old Trafford-based side “targeting an agreement worth 60 million pounds per year”. United signed a five-year deal with German tech firm TeamViewer in 2021 to be their principal shirt sponsor, replacing Chevrolet. (Agencies)
France top Switzerland in Davis Cup finals
MANCHESTER, Sep 13: Ugo Humbert beat Stan Wawrinka 6-4, 6-4 to help France get off to a winning start against Switzerland in the group stage of the Davis Cup Finals on Tuesday.Humbert’s victory gave France an unassailable lead after Adrian Mannarino defeated Dominic Stricker 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in Group B play.The doubles pairing of Nicolas Mahut and Edouard Roger-Vasselin sealed the 3-0 French victory by beating Marc-Andrea Huesler and Wawrinka 6-2, 6-2. FIH withdraws Olympic qualifiers from Pakistan
LAUSANNE, Sep 13: The International Hockey Federation (FIH) will soon announce a new host for one of the three Paris 2024 Olympic Qualifiers after withdrawing the hosting rights from Pakistan.The FIH was on Tuesday withdrew the men’s Olympic qualifier from Pakistan because of issues related to the Pakistan Hockey Federation.“FIH can confirm that it has informed the Pakistan Hockey Federation of its decision to withdraw the hosting of the Men’s FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifier tournament – scheduled in January 2024 – from Pakistan. This is primarily due to the recent developments in the governance situation of the Federation. (IANS)
