SHILLONG, Sep 14: A delegation of the Mawlai Mawiong Rim Dorbar Shnong has given a 15-day deadline to the East Khasi Hills district administration to remove the coal dumped in the locality.
Members of the Dorbar placed their demand during their meeting with Deputy Commissioner, RM Kurbah.
The deputy commissioner assured the delegation that the coal dumped in the locality would be auction off within a week’s time.
The members of the Dorbar expressed concern over the dumping of coal saying that effluents from the coal has been flowing to the water sources which provide potable water to the residents of the locality.
Rangbah Shnong of Mawlai Mawiongrim, S. Lyngdoh said they will resort to other measures if the district administration fails to clear the coal within the stipulated deadline.
According to him, there are water sources, fisheries pond and agricultural land close to the place where the coal is being dumped.
The Dorbar Shnong also expressed concern that this particular place has turned into a coal depot and often the coal dumped there goes missing without being noticed by anyone.
