SHILLONG, Sep 15: The state government has failed yet again to come clear on its stand on the stalled railway projects in Meghalaya.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday treaded a familiar path, reiterating that from the perspective of development, Meghalaya should have railways as it would improve trade, connectivity and economy but admitted that there are concerns being raised by various stakeholders.
“We would like to carry along everyone and no one is saying that we should shelve the projects,” he said.
Asserting that funds for the project are lying unused, he said that if the government is unable to move forward, the funds may be utilised for other projects.
“It is taking time to address the concerns of the pressure groups but the government is trying to find another region which is open to the idea of having railways,” he said.
He said the Ministry is perturbed by the delay but they have understood the challenges.
