NONGSTOIN, Sep 15: The absence of a mathematics teacher in Sibsing Memorial Government Higher Secondary School has raised concern to the students – especially, Class IX and Class X students as they are preparing for the board exams.
The situation has disrupted the continuity of lessons and studies, particularly if there is no replacement immediately, the students lamented.
In July this year, the officiating teacher resigned from the post.
‘We feel uncertain about what the future holds with regards to mathematics and the academic progress. This can potentially lead to anxiety and stress, which can affect our academic performance’, a Class X student said.
According to the students, the absence of a mathematics teacher, especially during the time when one is preparing for the selection test for the SSLC, has increased workload.
We may have to take on additional work to compensate for the absence of the teacher.
It was informed that not only class X students are affected after the teacher resigned, but the students of Classes VIII, IX and X are also suffering as the teacher also teaches physic and chemistry for Class IX, mathematics for Class X and mathematics for Class VIII.
The principal of the school D Hujon, said that the post was vacant since June 2022 and officiating post was created, but since July 2023 after the resignation of the officiating teacher the post has been lying vacant. Though, the recommendation has been sent to higher authority to appoint at the earliest, yet there is no response from the department, she added.
Sib Singh Memo Govt. Higher Secondary School is one of the premiere institutions catering to the rural youths, and underprivileged students in Nongstoin.
The school has at present become one of the finest institutions at par with other educational institutions in the state and has produced lots of quality students.
It is important for the education department to address these issues and provide support to students during this transition period.
