SHILLONG, Sep 17: Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai attended the Onam celebrations organised by All India Malayalee Association (Shillong), in collaboration with Kalakairaly Shillong held at the U Soso Tham Auditorium on Sunday.
The Malayali community in Shillong, consisting of bureaucrats, students, and residents from diverse backgrounds, came together to partake in this festive occasion, far from home.
The morning session of the event saw cultural musical and dance performances to apacked auditorium. Following the morning session, Ona Sadya was served, a traditional Onam feast featuring an array of approximately 26-28 delectable vegetarian dishes.
Cabinet Minister AL Hek attended the first session as the Guest of Honour. Later in the post-lunch session, Goa Governor attended as the Chief Guest and Shakil P Ahammed, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya as the Guest of Honour.
The bureaucrat addressed the gathering, emphasizing the cultural significance of Onam to Malayalis across the globe.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to the Malayali community of Shillong, the AIMA honoured Jose Lukose with the prestigious Kalakairaly Keswari Award. Lukose, who relocated to Shillong in 1988 and served in the Auditors General Office until his retirement in May 2023, received the award from the Goa Governor.
