Shillong, September 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon opposition parties to put aside the habit of “rona dhona” (crying and whining) and concentrate on the “short yet momentous session” of Parliament, ahead of its special convening. He also urged Members of Parliament (MPs) to allocate their ‘maximum time’ to the session.
As per India Today, PM Modi remarked, “This is a short session. Their (MPs) maximum time should be devoted (to the Session) in an environment of enthusiasm and excitement. Rone dhone ke liye bahut samay hota hai, karte rahiye. (There is plenty of time in life to cry and whine.) There are a few moments in life which fill you with enthusiasm and faith. I look at this short session like that.”
The Prime Minister’s reference to ‘rone dhone’ pertained to the frequent protests by opposition members during previous sessions, often resulting in disruptions of Parliamentary proceedings.
In response to PM Modi’s ‘rone dhone’ remark, National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah, an opposition leader, expressed his satisfaction with the session’s convening and clarified that he was not “cribbing.”
“I am not cribbing, did you hear me cribbing? I am happy that the Session is there, I hope we can deliver and do something good for the country,” Abdullah stated.
The five-day special session of Parliament commenced today, with PM Modi addressing the Lok Sabha on the first day.
