Shillong, September 19: Senior BJP MP Maneka Gandhi shared her proudest moment during a special event commemorating the old Parliament in Central Hall.

She recounted that her happiest moment was being entrusted with the responsibility of implementing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship scheme, “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao,” when she served as the Minister for Women and Child Development during the first term of the NDA government.

As per IANS, addressing the gathering, Gandhi, the senior-most MP in the current 17th Lok Sabha, expressed her pride in being part of this historic moment. She highlighted the transformation brought about by the initiative, saying, “Within two years, we changed the thought of the country, and the statistics show that it is a lasting change.”

Reflecting on her long parliamentary career, Gandhi noted that she has spent most of her adult life in the institution, witnessing the leadership of seven prime ministers and significant moments in India’s history. She joined the BJP under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and has remained a proud member of the party and the August House.

The event was attended by dignitaries, including Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Rajya Sabha Piyush Goyal, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, who were seated on the dais in Central Hall.
