Resubelpara, Sep 21: In a new twist to the case of the SDO of Bajengdoba, Kedia Marak, who was accused by a contractor of taking a bribe to pass bills due to him, the contractor, Tarseng Sangma, has now accused the Bajengdoba police in North Garo Hills of not registering his FIR.

Sangma further alleged that instead of taking up the case and investigating it, the investigation officer of the PS called to threaten him with dire consequences for filing the case in the first place. He has now filed another case against the OC of Bajengdoba for refusing to register his FIR.

Earlier, Tarseng had filed a complaint with the Bajengdoba PS accusing the PHE SDO of appropriating a bribe from him to release his pending dues of over Rs 74 lakhs. He has also filed a separate case with the Meghalaya High Court against the same officer after one of the projects that was given to him, was apparently illegally given to another contractor.

In a statement today, Tarseng stated that following the refusal of the Officer in charge of Bajengdoba refusing to register his FIR, a complaint has been filed against the officer on his refusal as has been mandated under Sec 154 of the CRPC.

He also added that he has also approached the commissioner and secretary of PHE to take disciplinary action against the SDO for her corruption.

“Instead of taking up the case and investigating it, the OC called me up and verbally threatened me of dire consequences for taking up the case. The said officer should understand that the law of the land applies to all. I have filed an FIR against the OC for indulging in criminal activities. The department needs to investigate him without any bias or impartiality,” stated Tarseng through a statement.

Upon being contacted on the matter, superintendent of police, NGH, Bruno A Sangma stated that the matter was now being inquired into and appropriate action will be taken.
