HYC, village council lock down factory

NONGSTOIN, Sep 22: A woman identified as Edalin Kharsewsaw of Riwiang village, West Khasi Hills, has been missing since September 16, and it is suspected that she ran away with a factory worker named Mridul Bora.
According to the village headman, A Dkhar, the village council and the woman’s family members lodged an FIR withNongstoin Police Station on September 17.
They even met the authority of Shakambari Ferro Alloy Factory and asked them to take responsibility for bringing the woman and the man back. However, the village headman said that the factory did not take the matter seriously.
On Friday, the village council along with the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) shut down the factory and locked its office demanding that the factory should bring the woman back, following which the office will be allowed to reopen.
Speaking to a media persons, the factory’s manager said that they are cooperating with the police and the villagers. He said that the Meghalaya and Assam Police helped him trace Bora to his residence in Boko Assam, but they were unable to locate him. The manager said Bora was fluent in Khasi and had a long-term relationship with the villagers.
