SHILLONG, Sep 22: Loved ones of ex-MLA (L) Ardhendu Chaudhuri reminisced about his selfless services at Rilbong Community Hall during the observance of his 19th death anniversary, on Friday.
The day also marked the completion of five years of ‘Aahar’ — free meal to the poor.  Ardhendu Chaudhuri, who once served as the legislator of Mawprem Constituency, tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash in 2004, along with nine others, including a cabinet minister of Meghalaya.
The event was graced by the presence of South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai and secretary of Ramakrishna Mission, Swami Hitakamananda, as special guests.
Addressing the gathering, Manas Chaudhuri, Managing Trustee of the Ardhendu Chaudhuri Charitable Trust, emphasised the enduring legacy of those who dedicate their lives to serving others. He highlighted how Ardhendu Chaudhuri’s memory continues to be cherished and respected because of his selfless service.
Manas Chaudhuri further acknowledged the challenges of following in his brother’s footsteps and continuing his legacy of service to humanity. He further said that this was his driving purpose behind the charitable trust founded in Ardhendu Chaudhuri’s name, which works to uplift the downtrodden and underprivileged.
He also disclosed that an amount of Rs 50 lakh was expended to provide Aahar meals to the poor during past five years.
Local MLA Sanbor Shullai, reflecting on his time spent with the departed legislator, affectionately known as ‘Bablu da,’ praised his honesty and unwavering commitment to the betterment of his constituents.
Central Puja Committee (CPC) president Naba Bhattacharjee recalled manifold qualities of Ardhendu. During the event, special recognition was extended to the dedicated team members, including cooks, bus drivers, and handymen, who contributed to the trust not merely for financial gain but out of love and reverence for the late Chaudhuri.
Later, the trustees of the Ardhendu Chaudhuri Charitable Trust were also felicitated.
Dr Debasish Das welcomed the guests and Bibhuti Chakraborty offered the vote of thanks.
