Shillong, Sept 25: The opposition MDCs in the KHADC stage a walk out after the NPP-led Executive Committee (EC) decides to go ahead in passing the Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Administration of Elaka) (Second Amendment) Bill, 2023 during the special session here on Monday.

The opposition MDCs from the UDP and HSPDP had proposed that the amendment bill should be referred to the Select Committee.

Leader of Opposition, Titosstarwell Chyne said that it will be better to refer the amendment bill to the select committee since there are many clauses which are in conflict with the Acts of the various Himas.

Deputy CEM in-charge Elaka, Pynshngain N. Syiem questioned why the opposition MDCs did not study the amendment bill in detail and come up with a suggestion.

According to him, he does not think it will require a lot of time to study the amendment bill.

He further stated that the Executive Committee is of the view there should not be any delay in passing of the bill.

As an act of protest, the Opposition MDCs stage a walk out to oppose the passing of the amendment bill.
