SHILLONG, Sep 24: The PWD (Roads) has come out with a plan to repair the dilapidated roads in the city but lack of funds is proving to be an obstacle.
A senior PWD official told The Shillong Times on Sunday that the department is trying to arrange funds from various sources for the repair work.
“I can assure that the work on all the roads which require urgent repair will start as soon as the rainy season subsides,” the official said.
Earlier, another PWD official had said that the state did not have the technology to repair roads during the rainy season.
The official had said that work entailing bitumen cannot be carried out during the rainy season. The Chief Engineer of PWD (Roads) has been instructed to come up with an alternative solution to ensure people are not discomforted, he had stated.
Several roads in Shillong are in a deplorable state causing hardships to the commuters. Some of the worst roads in the city include the Mawkhar Main Road, Lapalang-Rynjah Road, MES-Demseiniong Road, Polo-Nongmensong Road, Mawlai Bypass, Lachaumiere-Dhankheti Road, Boucher Road, and roads in Mawlai area.
