Rally calls for protection of rivers

SHILLONG, Sep 24: As part of the observance of World Rivers Day 2023 in the city, a rally titled ‘Life to Rivers Rally’ was taken out with around 200 participants including over a hundred NCC cadets besides with officials, students, representatives from several govt. departments, nearby residents and members of Rotary Clubs.
The group took a march in the city with placards to create mass awareness on saving streams and rivers. The rally started from Laitumkhrah police point at 11 am and concluded at NCC Headquarter, Rhino.
Minister in charge of Water Resources department, Marcus N Marak, appreciated the effort and sent his best wishes to participants and organisers.
The rally was flagged-off by chief guest SC Sadhu, Secretary, Water Resources department, in the presence of guest of honour Col. Chetan Dhiman, NCC, Shillong, and members from Rotary Clubs and representatives from Shillong Municipal Board. The ‘Life to Rivers Rally’ was organised by Rotary Club Orchid City Shillong and Rotary Club Shillong Heritage in-association with YesEarth Corps (Shillong), 2 MEGH BN NCC, Shillong. The initiative was supported by Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group (ESRAG SouthAsia) and Adopt-a-River: UN Environment Programme & Rotary International.
