NONGSTOIN, Sep 26: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) on Tuesday reminisced about the contributions of party stalwart and founding president, Hoping Stone Lyngdoh on his 8th death anniversary.
Party members and supporters congregated at Langpih market, where they laid floral wreaths on his memorial tomb. This was followed by a gathering in front of the tomb.
Addressing the gathering, current president of the party, KP Pangniang, recalled Lyngdoh’s days as a hill state fighter under the All Party Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC). However, owing to his unwillingness to accept the sub-state or autonomous state, Lyngdoh formed the HSPDP along with hill state volunteers to demand a full-fledged state.
Recalling that the party had submitted a list of 300 hill state fighters to the state government to be recognised during the celebration of the 50th Statehood Day, Pangniang lamented that they were not included, even in the souvenir.
He stated that it was with due to the foresight of Hoping Stone Lyngdoh as an Executive Member in the United Khasi Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council that Langpih found a place in the census and the electoral roll.  Meanwhile, Mawshynrut MLA, Methodius Dkhar, in his speech, said that as a member of the Regional Committee on boundary dispute, he has tried to convey to the border villages that they belong to Meghalaya.
He asserted that they would not get all the land that is expected but what would be allocated will satisfy the people of the area and the state.
Others who speak at the gathering include KHADC MDC and senior vice president of the Party, Martle N Mukhim, besides family members of (L) Hoping Stone Lyngdoh, among others.
