Man accused of rape attempt found dead

NONGSTOIN, Sep 26: In a bizarre development linked to a recent case, one Komanwell Marwein of Lawbyrtun village in Mawthadraishan, West Khasi Hills, who was accused of assaulting a minor and attempting to rape her, was found dead on Tuesday. It is suspected that he hanged himself.
Komanwell was the main accused involved in the assault of a 19-year-old girl from Eastern West Khasi Hills who was on her way to school on September 20. The girl had had a narrow escape that day. The body was found by his sister, D Marwein, at 11 am. She followed the source of a foul smell coming from her garden, and found her brother hanging.
Earlier, after the incident involving the 19-year-old, the police had launched a manhunt to find the assailant.
Source said that Komanwell was the key suspect in case of the assault of the 19-year-old student. It is also suspected that he decided to kill himself over fear of being arrested.
