Nagpur, Sep 26: An offence has been registered Maharashtra’s Nagpur city, police said on Tuesday. According to the police, Nikhil Malik (30), Nagesh Pawar (33), and Akshay Bharatkar (30) offered their services to the complainant who was in need of financial assistance. While the complainant secured a loan from a bank, the accused managed to extract details of his bank account and password of the bank’s mobile application, an official said. The trio allegedly siphoned off Rs 4.25 lakh from the complainant’s account and refused to return the sum, he said. The accused also similarly cheated a woman of Rs 4.40 lakh, the official said.A case under section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act has been registered against the trio. Student held on charges of drug peddling
Mangaluru, Sep 26: In continuing efforts to make Mangaluru a drug-free city, the central crime branch (CCB) police have arrested a college student allegedly involved in the sale of narcotic substance in the city. Lukmanul Hakeem (22), hailing from Ajjawara village in Sullia taluk of Dakshina Kannada district is currently pursuing his graduation course at a college in the city and resides at an apartment complex in Bejai here, police sources said on Tuesday. Police seized 25 gms of MDMA from the accused, valued at Rs 1.25 lakh. A digital weighing scale, mobile phone and various other items were also seized. The total value of the confiscated items is estimated at Rs 1.60 lakh. (PTI)
Prisoner tries to hang himself
Sambhajinagar, Sep 26: A criminal case was filed against a 48-year-old inmate of the Harsul jail here after he allegedly tried to hang himself, officials said on Tuesday. Khaik Jamir alias Kaichi Shaikh, lodged in judicial custody, tried to hang himself from the door of barrack number 5 with a bedsheet around 1.30 pm on Monday, said a release. He was stopped and rescued in time, said an official. A case under section 309 (attempt to commit suicide) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against him at Harsul Police station, he added. Worms found in mid-day meal in
3 Goa schools
Panaji, Sep 26: Officials of the Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration on Tuesday collected food samples, after three schools in Priol, South Goa complained of worms in the Mid-Day Meal’s ‘Soya Chunks Pulao’. Director of Education Shailesh Zingade told IANS that after the complaints were received, Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration officials were summoned to take samples. “They have collected the food samples and a report is awaited,” . Sources said the education department will take action against the Self-Help Group supplying the Mid-Day Meal, if it is found faulty. Another official said that the three schools have complained to them about the incident. (IANS)
