Shillong Book Fair to honour M’laya’s rich literary heritage

SHILLONG, Sep 26: Shillong Book Fair 2023 scheduled to begin Wednesday is expected to be a tribute to Meghalaya’s rich literary and cultural heritage.
The fair will be organised by the National Book Trust (NBT), India, at the State Central Library from September 27 to October 3, in collaboration with the Arts and Culture and Education department.
The fair will showcase a diverse collection of books, including the works of local authors and regional literature spanning various genres.
Addressing reporters on the event at the Shillong Press Club here on Tuesday, NBT Director Yuvraj Malik said that the fair will showcase a diverse collection of books, including the works of local authors and regional literature from various genres.
He said that bibliophiles and even non-avid readers will have the opportunity to explore books that mirror the vibrant cultural fabric of Meghalaya and the North East.
Principal Secretary of the Education department, Pravin Bakshi was also present during the press conference.
Throughout the fair, engaging sessions, book launches, and discussions will provide a platform for readers to interact with their literary idols.
To kindle the flames of imagination, interactive storytelling sessions and creative workshops will be conducted for children during the fair.
In addition to literary treasures, the Shillong Book Fair will also host cultural performances, creating an ambiance of vibrancy and cultural richness.
The Shillong Book Fair 2023 will also have approximately 50 stalls by prominent publishers from across the country including National Book Trust, India, showcasing a diverse range of books related to Meghalaya, regional literature, and various genres in English, Khasi, Garo and other Indian languages.
These stalls will offer visitors a wonderful opportunity to explore and purchase books that pique their interest, from works that delve into the rich literary history of Meghalaya to captivating regional literature promoting the joy of reading while encouraging the exploration of varied literary works.
NBT-India’s Shillong Book Fair 2023 aspires to cultivate a thriving literary community, celebrating the magic of books amidst the captivating landscape of Meghalaya.
