NONGPOH, Sep 27: Members of the Khasi Student Union (KSU), Nongpoh Circle, met on Wednesday and demanded that the District Medical & Health Officer (DMHO) of the Nongpoh Civil Hospital conduct an immediate inquiry and investigation into the alleged incident in which a woman found a strange object in one of the medicines (syrup) provided by the hospital.
It may be mentioned that a few days ago, a woman took her daughter for a medical checkup at Nongpoh Civil Hospital, where she was given medicines. When she returned home and opened the medicine to administer it to her daughter, she was shocked to find a small, strange object that looked like broken glass in the medicine, and she refused to use it.
Upon receiving this information, the members of the KSU, led by its general secretary Baiaishanlang Kharshanlor, met the District Medical Health Officer to express their concerns about the incident and to demand an immediate investigation.
Kharshanlor explained that the Union was deeply concerned about such incidents, as they could endanger the lives of patients. He emphasised that the Union had no intention of tarnishing the hospital’s image but wanted to ensure that such incidents would not recur in the future. They called for a thorough investigation and screening of medicines before they are prescribed to patients.
The DMHO clarified that it was unusual for such incidents to occur and that it was the first time such an incident had happened at Nongpoh Civil Hospital. The official assured that a proper inquiry and investigation would be conducted, and samples of the medicine would be sent for examination.
