SHILLONG, Sep 27: The High Court of Meghalaya has taken note of the recent report by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India pointing out serious anomalies in the functioning of weighbridges in the state and the abject failure of the authorities to arrest the trend of overladen vehicles.
“Despite the state referring to an order dated August 23, 2023 passed in PIL No. 1 of 2022, it appears that serious anomalies in the functioning of weighbridges in the state and the abject failure to arrest overladen vehicles have been pointed out in a recent report by the CAG,” the court said.
The court gave the petitioner the liberty to ascertain and indicate the deficiencies on the part of the state when the matter appears next.
The state was also asked to furnish the relevant extract from the CAG report.
