SHILLONG, Sep 28: In compliance with the order of the Supreme Court of India, the Meghalaya government has constituted the State Transgender Justice Board.
The Chairperson of the Board is the Social Welfare Minister, Kyrmen Shylla, along with 14 members including the Member Secretary.
In 2014, the Supreme Court had granted legal recognition to transgender and other gender non-conforming persons and also held that all persons have the constitutional right to self-identify their gender.
Further, the SC had directed the Union and state governments to allow transgender persons to access reservations in public education and employment.
