SHILLONG, Sep 28: The KHADC has issued a stern warning against individuals involved in illegally excavating soil from Pillangkata in Ri-Bhoi and then transporting it to Assam.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting the excavating site on Thursday, KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pyniaid Sing Syiem said he will file an official complaint against one Billu Taro with the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Ri-Bhoi as well as the police, if he does not stop the illegal activity.
According to Syiem, the concerned person has obtained permission from neither the state government nor the District Council and Hima Mylliem.
The CEM alleged that he carried out an inspection after receiving several complaints about the alleged illegal excavation of soil in the area.
Informing that the Council had issued a show-cause notice to the person, Syiem said that he is yet to reply to the notice despite the end of the 15-day deadline given to him.
The CEM said that Taro has disregarded the show-cause notice issued by the Council to him by continuing to excavate the soil, even during the night, reportedly.
“We are giving him another two days’ time to reply to the show-cause notice. We are going to file a complaint with the district administration and police against him for taking necessary action,” he added.
It may be mentioned that the KHADC CEM had carried out an inspection in the presence of District Magistrate, Eric K Dkhar, officials of the KHADC, Myntris of Hima Mylliem and members of various pressure groups.
